Beyond Peru Travel Standards

Safety & Traveler Preparedness

Thoughtful planning. Reliable communication. Trusted local support.

At Beyond Peru Travel, guest safety and well-being are considered throughout the planning and operation of every journey. Travel throughout Peru can involve changing elevations, remote areas, varying road conditions, weather, unfamiliar environments, and destinations where cellular coverage may be limited. Our approach focuses on preparation, communication, responsible itinerary planning, reliable transportation, qualified local professionals, and the ability to contact and coordinate with appropriate services if unexpected situations arise.

Our safety-focused approach is intended to add another layer of preparedness and peace of mind while preserving the authentic, comfortable, and memorable travel experience our guests expect.

01—Pre-Trip Planning & Risk Awareness

Before departure, itineraries are reviewed with consideration for destinations, transportation requirements, altitude, activity levels, seasonal weather conditions, travel times, and other reasonably foreseeable logistical factors.

Guests receive information relevant to their itinerary and are encouraged to communicate mobility limitations, dietary requirements, accessibility needs, or other travel considerations that may affect their experience. Travelers remain responsible for determining their own medical and physical suitability for participation and should consult an appropriate healthcare professional when they have questions or concerns.

02—Thoughtful Altitude Progression

Many of Peru's most remarkable destinations are located at significant elevations. Whenever practical, Beyond Peru Travel designs itineraries to introduce higher elevations progressively rather than unnecessarily placing travelers at the highest destination immediately upon arrival.

Rest periods, reasonable pacing, hydration, and lighter activity following major elevation changes may be incorporated into itineraries where appropriate. Individual responses to altitude vary, and no itinerary can prevent altitude-related illness. Guests experiencing concerning symptoms should notify the tour team so appropriate professional medical assistance can be contacted if necessary.

03—GPS Location & Communication

Selected Beyond Peru Travel tour personnel may carry GPS-enabled communication and location-tracking equipment during scheduled portions of a journey. When active and functioning, this equipment can provide location information and additional communication capability, particularly where ordinary cellular service may be limited.

GPS location information can assist the tour team in communicating an accurate location to appropriate emergency services if necessary. GPS and satellite-based systems are supplemental safety tools and should not be understood as guaranteeing continuous coverage, immediate rescue, or uninterrupted communication in every location or circumstance.

04—Enhanced Connectivity

Beyond Peru Travel uses ordinary mobile communications as the primary means of communication where reliable service is available. Depending on the itinerary and operating conditions, additional satellite-based connectivity, including Starlink equipment, may be available during selected portions of a journey.

Satellite connectivity is intended to provide an additional communication option in appropriate locations but is subject to equipment availability, power, terrain, weather, satellite coverage, obstructions, and other technical or environmental conditions. Continuous internet or satellite connectivity is therefore not guaranteed.

05—Professional Guides & Local Expertise

Beyond Peru Travel works with professional local guides and tourism service providers appropriate to the experiences included in each itinerary. Guides provide destination expertise, cultural and historical interpretation, itinerary assistance, and local knowledge within the scope of their professional role.

Unless specifically stated for a particular activity or individual guide, guests should not assume that a guide holds advanced medical, wilderness-rescue, or emergency-response qualifications. Medical emergencies are referred to appropriate healthcare or emergency-service professionals.

06—Transportation & Drivers

Transportation is coordinated through selected transportation providers appropriate to the destination and group requirements. Beyond Peru Travel considers factors such as provider reliability, vehicle suitability, route requirements, passenger comfort, and applicable operating requirements when coordinating transportation.

Road conditions, traffic, weather, closures, demonstrations, mechanical issues, government restrictions, and other circumstances can affect transportation schedules. When conditions warrant, itineraries or transportation arrangements may be reasonably adjusted in the interest of guest safety and operational practicality.

07—Response to an Incident

If an incident occurs, our priority is to establish communication, determine the group's location and circumstances, and contact the appropriate local emergency, medical, transportation, or public-safety service if necessary.

Where circumstances reasonably allow, Beyond Peru Travel may assist with communication, accurate location information, transportation coordination, local logistical arrangements, and contacting the traveler's designated emergency contact.

For serious incidents, appropriate local emergency and medical professionals remain responsible for medical treatment, rescue, evacuation, and other specialized emergency services. Beyond Peru Travel does not represent itself as a medical provider, ambulance service, rescue organization, or medical evacuation company.

Travelers are responsible for contacting and working directly with their own travel insurance or assistance provider regarding insurance coverage, authorizations, claims, reimbursements, medical assistance benefits, or evacuation benefits.

08—Medical Emergencies

If a guest requires medical evaluation or treatment, Beyond Peru Travel may assist with contacting an appropriate local healthcare or emergency service and, when reasonably possible, help coordinate transportation to an appropriate medical facility.

The availability, response time, capabilities, and quality of medical facilities and emergency services vary throughout Peru, particularly between major cities and remote regions. Beyond Peru Travel cannot guarantee the availability, response time, treatment, or capabilities of independent medical or emergency providers.

Travelers are responsible for costs associated with medical treatment, ambulance services, evacuation, medications, hospitalization, additional accommodations, transportation changes, or other expenses resulting from illness or injury except where otherwise required by applicable law or covered directly by the traveler's own insurance.

09—Travel Insurance

Beyond Peru Travel strongly recommends that every traveler obtain comprehensive travel insurance appropriate to their individual needs and itinerary before departure. Travelers should consider coverage for emergency medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation and repatriation, trip cancellation, trip interruption, baggage loss or delay, travel delays, and the activities and elevations included in their journey.

Upon request, Beyond Peru Travel may provide information about independent third-party travel insurance providers for travelers to consider. Any provider information is offered for convenience only and does not constitute a guarantee, endorsement of a particular policy, or representation that the coverage will be suitable for an individual traveler. The traveler remains responsible for evaluating available providers and policies.

Travelers are solely responsible for deciding whether to purchase travel insurance, selecting their insurance provider and policy, understanding the policy's terms, limits and exclusions, and determining whether the coverage is appropriate for their needs and itinerary. Travelers should carefully review medical coverage, emergency evacuation and repatriation coverage, altitude restrictions, pre-existing-condition provisions, activity exclusions, cancellation coverage, and other applicable limitations before purchasing a policy.

Travelers are also responsible for purchasing, maintaining, and managing their own policy and for communicating directly with their chosen insurance or assistance provider regarding coverage, claims, authorizations, reimbursements, medical assistance, evacuation benefits, or other insurance-related services. Beyond Peru Travel does not sell, administer, manage, underwrite, or determine eligibility for travel insurance coverage, benefits, or claims.

10—Weather, Natural Events & Changing Conditions

Peru's geography includes coastline, desert, mountains, high-altitude environments, valleys, rainforest, and other regions where conditions can change quickly.

Weather, landslides, flooding, road closures, rail disruptions, earthquakes, demonstrations, government actions, strikes, natural events, or other circumstances may require itinerary changes. Beyond Peru Travel may reasonably modify routes, schedules, transportation, activities, accommodations, or other arrangements when necessary for safety or operational reasons.

11—Guest Responsibility

Safety is a shared responsibility. Guests are expected to follow reasonable instructions provided by guides, transportation providers, attraction personnel, government authorities, and Beyond Peru Travel representatives.

Travelers should remain aware of their surroundings, stay with the group when instructed, respect activity restrictions and site rules, safeguard personal belongings, use appropriate footwear and clothing, maintain reasonable hydration, and avoid behavior that could unnecessarily place themselves or others at risk.

Guests should promptly communicate concerns that could affect their ability to safely participate in an activity.

12—Activities & Individual Risk

Certain experiences may involve walking on uneven surfaces, stairs, hiking, altitude, boats, trains, road travel, wildlife, outdoor activities, or other conditions carrying inherent risks.

Beyond Peru Travel seeks to provide guests with reasonable information about expected activity levels, but individual ability and tolerance vary. Participation remains subject to the traveler's judgment, physical condition, applicable provider requirements, and conditions at the time of the activity.

13—Emergency Contacts & Important Information

Guests should travel with identification, their travel insurance information if insurance has been purchased, emergency contact details, and any personally required medications or important medical information.

Beyond Peru Travel will provide appropriate contact information for trip-related assistance. Travelers who purchase travel insurance should retain their insurer's emergency-assistance contact information and are responsible for communicating directly with their insurer or assistance provider when insurance-related assistance is required.

Travelers should also know how to contact appropriate local authorities when traveling independently from the group.

14—Our Commitment

No travel company can eliminate every risk associated with international travel. Beyond Peru Travel's commitment is to approach travel responsibly through thoughtful itinerary design, communication, reliable logistical coordination, appropriate local expertise, and practical contingency planning.

Our goal is not to make unrealistic promises about risk. It is to prepare carefully, communicate clearly, respond responsibly to changing circumstances, and provide our guests with an additional layer of support while they experience Peru.
